At Strovlin, sustainability is not a marketing claim — it is a set of deliberate decisions we make at every stage: the metals we choose, the suppliers we work with, the packaging we use, and the way we design pieces built to last years, not seasons. This page is our honest account of where we stand and where we are headed.

Responsible Material Sourcing

The environmental and ethical impact of jewelry begins with raw materials. We source our metals and stones with the following principles in place:

Conflict-Free Metals

We work exclusively with suppliers who certify that their metals are sourced through conflict-free supply chains. No material in our catalog is knowingly sourced from regions where mining funds armed conflict.

Lab-Grown Stones

The majority of stones in our collection — cubic zirconia, moissanite, and synthetic opal — are lab-grown. Lab-grown stones are chemically and optically identical to mined stones, with a fraction of the environmental footprint: no open-pit mining, no habitat disruption, no water-intensive extraction.

Supplier Standards

Our manufacturing partners are required to comply with international jewelry safety standards, including limits on lead, cadmium, and nickel content. We do not work with suppliers who cannot demonstrate compliance.

Natural Materials — Responsibly Used

Where we use natural materials — freshwater pearls, raw gemstones, beeswax amber, and ceramic — we source from suppliers who use sustainable harvesting and low-impact production methods.

Durability Is Our Primary Sustainability Strategy

The most sustainable piece of jewelry is one you never have to replace. Fast fashion jewelry — pieces that tarnish, break, or fade within months — creates enormous waste. Our approach is the opposite.

The majority of our catalog is built on 316L stainless steel and S925 sterling silver — two of the most durable, tarnish-resistant, and long-wearing metals available at this price point. We deliberately chose these materials over cheaper alloy alternatives because they extend the usable life of every piece significantly.

Material Why It Lasts Environmental Benefit
316L Stainless Steel Corrosion-resistant, scratch-resistant, does not tarnish under normal wear. PVD coating bonds at a molecular level — far more durable than standard plating. Pieces last years, not months. Less frequent replacement = less production demand and less waste.
S925 Sterling Silver 92.5% pure silver — a precious metal that can be polished and restored indefinitely. Does not degrade structurally over time. Silver is one of the most recycled metals on earth. A well-maintained silver piece can last a lifetime.
Vacuum / PVD Plating Molecular-level bonding makes PVD coatings significantly more resistant to fading, chipping, and wear than electroplating. Longer-lasting finish = fewer replacements = less manufacturing impact per customer.

Packaging

Packaging is one of the most visible sources of waste in e-commerce jewelry. We are actively working to reduce ours.

Minimal Plastic

We are progressively eliminating single-use plastic from our packaging. Where plastic is currently used for product protection, we are transitioning to recyclable or compostable alternatives.

Recyclable Outer Packaging

Our shipping boxes and mailers are made from recyclable materials. We encourage customers to reuse or recycle packaging after unboxing.

Right-Sized Packaging

We use packaging sized to the product — not oversized boxes with excessive void fill. Smaller packages mean more efficient shipping, lower emissions per shipment, and less material waste.

Gift Packaging on Demand

Premium gift boxes are available as an option — not included by default. This means customers who do not need gift packaging do not generate that additional material waste.

Ethical Production Practices

We hold our manufacturing partners to standards that go beyond product quality:

  • Fair wages: We work with manufacturers who pay workers at or above local living wage standards.
  • Safe working conditions: Our partners operate in facilities that meet occupational health and safety requirements.
  • No child labor: This is a non-negotiable condition of any supplier relationship we maintain.
  • Transparency: We are willing to share information about our supply chain with customers who ask. We have nothing to hide.
A note on honesty: We are a growing brand, not a certified B-Corp. We do not claim perfection. What we do claim is that every decision we make is moving in the right direction — and that we hold ourselves accountable to continuous improvement.

Shipping & Carbon Footprint

Shipping is an unavoidable part of e-commerce, but we work to minimise its impact:

  • Consolidated shipments: Where possible, multiple items in a single order are shipped together rather than in separate packages.
  • Lightweight packaging: Lighter packages mean lower fuel consumption per shipment. Our packaging is designed to protect the product with the minimum necessary material weight.
  • Carrier selection: We work with carriers who have published emissions reduction commitments and offer carbon-neutral shipping options where available.
  • Reducing returns: Returns generate significant carbon emissions. Our detailed Size Guide and product descriptions are designed to help customers order correctly the first time — reducing the environmental cost of return shipments.

Care for Your Pieces

Proper care dramatically extends the life of jewelry. Store pieces separately, keep them dry, and polish them regularly. A well-maintained piece can last years longer than a neglected one.

Order the Right Size First Time

Returns and exchanges have a real environmental cost. Use our Size Guide before ordering to get the right fit — and reduce the emissions from return shipments.

Recycle Your Packaging

Our outer packaging is recyclable. Please place it in your recycling stream rather than general waste. Reuse gift boxes where possible.

Choose Quality Over Quantity

One well-made piece worn for years is more sustainable than five cheap pieces replaced annually. We design for longevity — we hope you wear our jewelry that way.
